SUPER 7

The next generation of line-drawing games has arrived with Super 7 for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Draw lines to combine the numbered discs and try to create 7s. Sure, it sounds simple but can you keep up once negative numbers and multipliers are thrown into the mix?

Super 7 was the first iPhone/iPad game I made. A game which is downloaded more then a million times.

REVIEWS:

INSPIRATION

The strength of the game is the gameplay and the game itself. Therefore I wanted to keep the look and feel as clean as possible. Number 7 is a number that always has had a mythical feeling to people. So I read all I could find about this number to bring me ideas I could implement in the game’s look and feel. One of my ideas was to use the shape of a heptagon for the numbers.
LAYOUT

You have to be able to count quick in this game, so I used different colours for each number. The icons that didn’t have a number I made black and white. This way you intuitively know it isn’t a number.

For the background I used the colour blue, because the coIour blue is the colour where your brain can concentrate best. For the heptagons I used warm colours to have a better contrast with the background.
ICON

When you design a game for iPhone/iPad you have to realize that one of the most important thinks is to get the attention of the consumer. To my opinion one of the key things for a possible succesfull game, are the Title of the game and the Icon. Both need to get the attention from all the thousands of games that are being sold. I put a lot of time to get the best icon I could possibily come up with.
Also for the Title we brainstormed for a long time. I think the best titles are titles that are short and are easy to remember. Two syllables words are best to remember. If you look at the succesfull games we know, a lot of them have 2 syllables; Te-tris, Pac-Man, etc

To get a better view of the contrast in the icons, I changed the saturation to grey. If you look well, you will see the bottom-right icon is the icon with the highest contrast. It’s the simples icon to read.

Keep the icon simple and don’t overcomplicate it. Keep in mind icons are being used for different Apple products. An icon on a iPhone has to be just as clear as on an iPad or iPad-Mini.
